What access do pharmacists have to our medication records?
Q. In the past I've taken medication to help me with depression. I've started seeing a pharmacist and now I'm worried he can access my prescriptions records. Can pharmacists access patient records form other pharmacies?

A. I am a pharmacy student, about to become a pharmacist and I have worked at CVS for about 6 years. From working at cvs, we can see anyone's prescription record that actually goes to cvs. We can't see other pharmacies records. That being said, pharmacists and anyone working in the pharmacy is required to complete HIPPA training. HIPPA is the series of laws that protect a citizen from having their information shared with anyone. So, basically it is against the law for someone to go snooping and trying to find your information. Your information is, by law, safe. On a side note, antidepressants are by far the most common prescription out there, at least one that we fill at our pharmacy anyways. They help a lot of people, there is no… [cont.]

A. The only way is to use the command prompt to hack it. But since you can't do that, you need to format the computer. Boot your computer with your WIndows XP installation disc. After a few minutes, it will prompt you to format your computer. Do so.

How do I access a ubuntu samba server from the internet thats behind an airport extreme?
Q. I have a samba server that works just fine on a local network, but I want to be able to access it from the internet. I have tried forwarding ports on my airport extreme (137, 138, 139, 445), but I still can't access it from the internet. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Asked by Phil Stahlf - Fri Jun 18 00:27:46 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Check with your ISP first. Some ISPs block NETBIOS traffic because of vulnerabilities. Another possibility is that your Samba server is setup to only allow hosts from your local network. Check your server security settings in your smb.conf file. See the resources section for a link on what to look for. However, I would strongly advise against doing what you are trying to do. It is a big security risk. If I had to, I would either setup a VPN or use ssh or sftp.

Mine is a Pay As You Go phone. Would somebody be kind enough to let us know the best method for us getting Internet access. Also would we need to share a connection or would we need our own and pay the bills separately. Thanks.

A. There are two choices: 1)USB broadband PAYG or contract. I am using 3 USB broadband PAYG, the only problem with this is only one PC may use it at once. 2) Contact Virgin about 'Cable' broadband, I used to have that when I was a student. The only problem with this is the cable coverage, virgin will tell you whether or not you can be connected. Its very fast, cheapish and reliable.

Q. I have 3 computer on a wireless home network but it only allows me access to Public Folders. I want to be able to access all the folders on the other computers. How do I set it up? Thanks
Asked by goals4us2 - Tue Feb 2 05:46:23 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It would be cool to know some basic things like what operating system you are running, and so forth. But, assuming you are running some modern version of Windows, all you need to do is find the folder you are to access from other computers, right-click on it, choose properties, and there you will find the "sharing" tab. In versions of windows before 7 and Vista, you could do this with a whole drive. Of course, it is recommend that you only share folders you must.

How to restrict access to the internet?
Q. I have employees who have been searching the net during their work hours and downloading contents unecessary to their work. How can I: (1) Restrict their access to certain websites (2) I can only make them access to one website only I've tried restricting their access to certain websites, but I would like that they could only access one website. Is this possible? I also tried restricting their access under Control Panel>Internet Options, but my question is how would I know that my employees would not change the settings?
Asked by oheatheretteo - Thu Nov 22 22:21:12 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can do software restriction through parental control type of software, or there is a more secure and more expensive hardware option, many high end hardware firewalls have resriction lists build in. Depends on how big your company is, but if it is fairly small, just go with a software like parental control. McAfee has a good one. P.S. You are right, the way you are doing it is not foolproof and many employees that are pretty smart will find ways around doing an option like that.

Is there any way to remotely access my company's Novell network via the Internet?
Q. I can access my own personal files via NetStorage and can access e-mail remotely through Novell WebAccess, but when I attempt to access my company's VPN login page with my username and password, the network will not let me on. Any suggestions as to why this is happening and remedies to the problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

A. What kind of VPN are you attempting to connect with? Are you establishing a connection with the VPN or is it failing then? If you can sucessfully connect to the VPN then check if you can ping the Novell Servers; If you are needing to login your machine at home may need to have an SLP DA address populated in the Novell Client Properties (Service Location Tab). You can get the DA server address from your network admins.

What is the easiest way to get access to Stanford University facilities such as gym and golf course?
Q. I just moved right next to Stanford University. I want to get access to Stanford Univesity facilities such as the gym and golf course. Is there any easy way to get access to the facilities. Can I take a night class or something along those lines to get alumni level access to facilities?

A. I'm not sure about Stanford specifically but usually, if you sign up for any daytime oncampus class, you will get charged a "student activities" fee. Paying this fee will typically allow you to get access to university facilities...Night class students may or may not be charged the fee, and it may depend on the particular night class... Call the Registrar or Campus Information Desk and ask.

A. This will depend on your laptop, I have a sony laptop and it actually has a switch on the side of it to turn on the wireless feature. I sometimes bump it and it cannot connect. Make sure your wireless is turned on. There also should be software that will search for the wireless network to get on. Check to see if there is a wireless switch.

A. Why don't you put a password on your computer? Many ways of breaking into Microsoft's OS has been dealt with. Vista has improved its security feature in many ways. The logging screen being one of them. Users can no longer boot up in safe mode, log in as a SYSTEM admin (not to be confused with the USER admin) to remove the password. More-that-likely they guessed your password or used a password cracking utility. Change and make a stronger password. Do not use words, names, birth dates, or any other string of characters that are easily guessed. Make sure it is at least eight (8) characters in length and contains letters (upper and lower case), numbers and special characters. 1. Click on Start and then Control Panel. 2. Click on the User… [cont.]
