Do you think I will be able to fly to Switzerland on July 24th?
Q. I know with the whole volcano (not even gonna try to spell it) thing flights have basically been cancelled to Europe. Do you think it will be safe by then, or do you think they will have found alternate roots by then?
Asked by Julia - Sun May 23 11:08:12 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Nobody can predict the voclano or the wind patterns that drive the ash clouds. However since the first massive shutdowns, the response to the volcano has ben moderated somewhat and many flights are going most days. At this point, you should be optomistic. I have flights to the US and back scheduled for the end of this week and have every expectation that I will be able to make the trip.

Searching for alternate causes of swelling & numbness in half of my upper lip, and the prognosis for recovery?
Q. Approximately month and a half ago i began to have pain between two upper teeth on one side, followed by numbness in my upper lip, only up about as high as a moustache, and nostril. 3 courses of antibiotics, and Dentist did root canal on the adjacent tooth, as he indicated that it was abcessed. Im still having pain between this tooth and the far back tooth, though dentist has looked and sees nothing wrong. Pain does not seem to improve even with brushing/flossing. Went to my regular physician, and MRI, came back normal, and visited with a neurologist who indicated that he thought I have trigeminal neuralgia because of a constant headache that I have on this same side, some shooting/stabbing pain and tingling in same side. Over the last… [cont.]

A. I had exactly the same thing on my bottom lip. What happened was, the dentist managed to twang a root nerve when he was fiddling around in there. It DID grow back, but he warned me that there's some small number of cases where it's permanent. I'm convinced that swishing with peroxide every day helped my mouth heal faster, and get on with healing the injured nerve. In the meantime, it was about two weeks before the nerve went from numb to tingly (like being asleep) and a month or two before I got full feeling back. Now it's like it was never hurt. Good luck healing!

Three questions: Most hated, begrudging respect, and alternate favorite?
Q. Okay, three questions: A. Which NFL team do you absolutely hate with a passion, and why? B. Which NFL team do you respect in spite of yourself, even if you're rooting against them? C. If you weren't a fan of your current favorite team, what team would you root for?

A. A. As a Steelers fan, I know I'm supposed to hate the Browns, but I just kinda feel bad for them. I know this is a pretty standard answer, but I HATE the Patriots. Like, HATE. I'll absolutely admit that they're an excellent team talent-wise, but Belichick walking off the field before Super Bowl XLII was even over just betrayed his absolute lack of class. The thing that makes football (or any sport, for that matter) great is watching highly skilled athletes compete on an even playing field--it's called sportsmanship. I feel like Belichick and his minions will do anything to win, and that makes it so much less enjoyable. Plus I'm sick of hearing announcers wetting themselves over Tom Brady every time I turn on ESPN (and his Stetson ads are… [cont.]

Hair dyers: How long have you been dying your hair?
Q. Also, What colour? What brand do you use? For me it's mainly been black, I've been dying it for 3 years now and most people think black is my natural hair color ;p The hairdye brands I use always alternate between L'oreal + Garnier. I have to touch up my roots probably once a month or so.

A. well i'm an ex-hair dyer, i started highlighting my hair in 7th grade; started dying my hair in 9th grade and gave up dying my hair my sophomore year of college...it's been over 1 year and 7 months since i last dyed my hair! i'm so proud of myself :) when i died my hair i always did various shades of brown, sometime a dark blonde. ( i naturally have light brown hair) i used garnier, l'oreal, herbal essences, whatever! and probably did it 3-5 times a year.

Frizzy hair + Oily roots..any suggestions please?!?!?
Q. Okay, I've got this really big problem. My hair are so weird, I mean, the roots of my hair from the scalp are oily and the left over hair are frizzy and dry. I have tried a variety of shampoos and conditioner, but none work. I wash my hair alternate days or once in 3 days or sometimes, even everyday (it depends). I oil my hair one night before washing them. I use an almond oil (it's really good, it makes my hair grow faster). I use dove breakage therapy shampoo and Dove conditioner for dry hair. I only use conditioner on the bottom of my hair, not on my scalp. I dry my hair, either by sitting in the sun (most convenient way :) ) or I use a hair-dryer, but not too much 'cause it makes my hair look like strands of broom :p Please help.… [cont.]

A. OK, you've tried all the answers YA HAIR have given you, but none seems to work. It's no wonder the hair industry is a billion dollar business, you're a good example. Try using two towels to absorb most of the water from your hair. Blow-dry just the roots, no more than 5 mins, using a diffuser. What works for others doesn't seem to work for your hair. Almond, you said makes your hair grow. You're eating the right foods, and get it trimmed regularly, that's a plus. The oil is making your roots greasy. The sun is drying your hair & making it more frizzy. Like your skin, they do get sunburned, same with hair. You can tame the frizz, set your hair with plastic curlers, you'll end up with uniform balance of curls. Used by the best hair… [cont.]

I have a question about a cactus I have?
Q. I don't know what it is, It grows pretty vertical and it has a very skinny stem/trunk. Every year it starts growing miniature plants on its leaves and when they drop off they grow roots and start new plants. I can't find a picture but the leaves are like an elongated oval with serated edges. on the points of the serated edges is where the mini plants develop. The leaves don't alternate they grow in pairs. Thats about it hope it's enough.

Since you're one of those lucky ppl whose hair likes both, I would tell you to alternate as there may be a benefit to it, somehow. lol. I got a molar root canal last Thursday, is it still supposed to be hurting?
Q. They did the canal and the permanent filling (I get the crown when I go back home around Christmas-time) on Thursday, and for the next three days I alternated between Ibuprofen and Tylenol. It just aches whenever i put any sort of pressure on that tooth, such as when I bite down on it. How long should it take for the pain to go away? And also, should I continue taking the Ibuprofen & Tylenol?
Asked by My avatar makes me look Jewish.. - Mon Aug 25 18:49:07 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I would continue taking the Ibuprofen only at a 600mg dose every 6 hours. The tylenol won't be of much help with dental inflammation. It would probably be a good idea to let your endodontist know of the continued pain, this should have settled down by now. You may need to be placed on another round of antibiotics to help clear up any residual infection that may still be present. If the pain continues to persist, hold off on having the crown work done. Occasionally a root canal won't help a tooth, this may be the case with yours, I'm not privy to the history of this tooth. It could also be that the tooth is too high and needs a slight adjustment. Your dentist will be better able to determine what is going on, check with him tomorrow.

Asked by Cold steel on ice - Sat Aug 18 19:19:18 2007 - - 18 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I am a Lakers and Bucks fan. Hard to stick with them though, as I am not a Kobe fan, I can stick with a looser though as long as they retain a little class and put out some effort. My number three team is usually a team on the rise kind of over achievers where chemistry is good and they sneak up on other teams, but have to like the Spurs because of the chemistry thing and sound fundamentals, same for the Bulls. I have not liked a Jazz team since they left New Orleans but the Boozer, Williams and a bunch of decent role players, good chemistry, determined and disiplined make them my number three this year. I have an eye on Orlando as well.

What is the difference when finding the convergence for sequence vs. series?
Q. For example I have an alternating sequence (-1) ^n * n /(n+1) if this were a series, it will converge if the n / (n+1) converges to 0 but it converges to 1, so the SERIES would be divergent does this same rule hold for sequences? do all the other tests hold true for sequences (ratio, root, geometric, p-series, harmonic, ect)? I am a little confused about series vs. sequence when determining convergence. Thanks!!

Can I have alternate teeth pulled instead of my wisdom teeth?
Q. I've always had really straight teeth, never needed braces or anything, but when I was in high school I had to have root canals done on two teeth (the tooth furthest back on each side of the top - I believe they're called the second molars.) I never had my wisdom teeth pulled because they didn't cause me pain, but now that they've fully grown out, my teeth have become misaligned and the top and bottom sets don't even fit together properly anymore. I also have problems with canker sores from accidentally biting the inside of my cheek because there just isn't enough room in there. The thing that concerns me the most, however, is that he wisdom teeth have pushed my teeth forward, so the metal caps that were placed over my root canal teeth… [cont.]
Asked by Miss Scarlet - Wed May 12 00:45:01 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Here is the main problem. If you pull the teeth in front of the wisdom teeth (the second molars) the wisdom teeth will not stay in an upright position and move forward unless you go into braces. Left alone they will tip over at a 45 degree or more angle, and because of this abnormal biting position, will end up loosening and needing extraction. Take to your dentist about your concerns with the prognosis of the root canals, the most cost effective way to go, and any other thoughts and concerns you may have. Good luck on your decision.

I would really love to go light blonde, BUT...?
Q. I can't afford a salon, it's WAY too costly. And I'm afraid of the box because what if it looks too orange or yellow?? Plus, I don't know what to do when my roots grow in. Do I just color the roots or do I dye all the hair again? Or do I alternate the two?? Any advice would be awesome!

A. If you're planning on using any sort of bleach to achieve your color I would strongly suggest going to a salon. You might be devastated with the results you get at home. However, if your hair is already fairly light, you could probably get good results using a boxed dye off the shelf. Good luck!
