Beer is the world's oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic beverage and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea. It is produced by the brewing and fermentation of starches, mainly derived from cereal grains—most commonly malted barley, although wheat, maize (corn), and rice are widely used. Most beer is flavoured with hops, which add bitterness and act as a natural preservative, though other flavourings such as herbs or fruit may occasionally be included. Some of humanity's earliest known writings refer to the production and distribution of beer: the Code of Hammurabi included laws regulating beer and beer parlours, and "The Hymn to Ninkasi," a prayer to the Mesopotamian goddess of beer, served as both a prayer and as a method of remembering the recipe for beer in a culture with few literate people. Today, the brewing industry is a global business, consisting of several dominant multinational companies and many thousands of smaller producers ranging from brewpubs to regional breweries. The basics of brewing beer are shared across national and cultural boundaries. Beers are commonly categorized into two main types—the globally popular pale lagers, and the regionally distinct ales, which are further categorised into other varieties such as pale ale, stout and brown ale. The strength of beer is usually around 4% to 6% alcohol by volume (abv.) though may range from less than 1% abv., to over 20% abv. in rare cases. Beer forms part of the culture of beer-drinking nations and is associated with social traditions such as beer festivals, as well as a rich pub culture involving activities like pub crawling and pub games such as bar billiards. Q. I have been inivited to a beer-tasting party and everyone is supposed to bring a unique beer for everyone to sample. I would appreciate some suggestions for a beer that would be different yet enjoyable for everyone to try. Men's Health rated 'Saison Dupont' the 'Best Beer in the World' but I am hoping that someone can confirm this if they have tried it. Thanks! Asked by Matt - Thu Dec 6 10:55:44 2007 - - 18 Answers - 1 Comments A. Firstly, homebrew is the most unique of any beer available. That being said, and you're probably not a homebrewer, I would go with something that either you like personally, or that you don't think anyone else at the party will be bringing. Sam Adams seasonals are always a nice change of pace. Their Winter Lager is out right now, and it is quite good, so is their Honey Porter. Or try a local micro-brew. The problem with getting into any critic's 'best beer in the world', is that some of those brews can get quite expensive. It would be one thing for you to buy yourself a bottle or 2 for tasting, but if you are going to a tasting party, that means you need to take enough for at least most of the people there to taste it. I want to make oven BBQ Chicken with Beer in the sauce, but I don't know if I am to marinate the quarters in the beer and spices first, or do I just pour it in the sauce when it's simmering??? Can you give me your recipe on how to do this please? Asked by THEMrsMinLa&Momof2 - Mon May 26 13:18:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. My advise to you will be to marinate your chicken with beer and spices like a day before you're planning on cooking it. So that way it can absorb the flavors. Then once you're ready to cook your meat you can marinate the chicken with BBQ sauce a little before you are ready to cook it so it can soak on the BBQ flavors also. P.S. Do not over marinate with beer or it might come up with a more sour taste though. But once again that depends on what kind of flavor you're trying to reach. Good luck and save me a plate;) Answered by Proud Jarocha - Mon May 26 13:26:49 2008 How is it that the commercially brewed beers are smoother and cleaner than my homebrewed beer, whether filtrat?
Q. How is it that the commercially brewed beers are smoother and cleaner than my homebrewed beer, whether filtration is conducted or not? Thanks for your two-cents Oh? What machinery and how is it used? Thanks Asked by TE - Fri Dec 11 14:23:47 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. They better reduce the chemicals substrates and precursors (same) to prevent them from being a problem in the final product. This is often done in the mash but prior to brewing a careful selection of raw materials aids the brewing in producing cleaner beers. Clearing agents, chill stabilization, and settling also works in the brewers favor in brewing a clean beer. Answered by BEERgOD - Fri Dec 18 12:18:46 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "beer" |
