outside fan ac motor?
Q. What does it cost to purchase a fan motor for an outdoor central ac unit. Mine is just humming and I know it did not ruin the compressor because I hear that kicking in.

A. It should cost around $110.00 for the motor. If the contactor is bad, that will cost about $40.00,bad capacitor should cost around $22.00.All of these components go together to run the motor. There is also a labor charge which will be around $50.00 and possibly a service call fee around $40.00. Find a reputable repairman who is honest and it will cost you less,Most companies will get to you by charging all these fees and some will only charge you a service call fee plus the parts. Good luck

How much does a fan motor cost, for a wheather king central air conditoner unit?
Q. Hi, my ac has been acting funny lately. The tech came out and said that I needed another fan motor. The fan motor gets hot and then eventually overheats which causes the air not to blow as well. We have a baby on the way and really cannot afford to replace the whole unit. Can anyone tell us how much fan motors usually cost for in home units? The Hvcac guy charged me 180$ total for the parts and the labor. Is this a good price.

A. If your up to it, you will need to get the model number off the motor inside your unit. It is not real easy to replace the motor but you really have to be mechanically inclined to get this done. After getting the spec off of the motor/voltage/speed... I would check on line for ac suppliers... they will price the motors on line matching your description and then you can make up your own mind if you want them to send it to you. At least then you will know the motor prices. With any search engine on the internet will give motor suppliers with prices... The main thing to remember is to remove all power before you get into the unit.

Coils on central ac unit freezing up? What could be the problem?
Q. Hi did not really get a clear answer with this before. my air is not coming out of my ac unit strong at all. It will work for the first hour and a hal maybe and the the ac air will start blowing out barely. I have called a tech but I think he is just fixing things that do not need to be fixed. He has changed the fan motor i believe that's what it is called. And also a piece that goes around the fan motor, forgot the name. yesterday we called him again and he told my husband to look under the unit and feel for ice on the coils, my hubby said they had ice all on the coils. But he knew this the second time he came out, but he replaced the fan. He has said several times that the unit needs to be replaced, and we have told him that we dint… [cont.]

A. If I understand what you are say correctly the tech told you you unit need to be replaced. If the anything in the refrigeration circuit is not working properly it can cause the coil to ice up. It could be a refrigerant leak in the unit he cannot fix. Who knows but he has already told you how to fix the problem. replace the unit. Why ask on here?
