Which host company to choose and from which country ?
Q. Most major US host companies offer excellent value for money for the services that they provide such as use of unlimited domains, bandwidth etc. I live in a European country, what are the disadvantages of having a US host company other than telephone support if I need so? In addition are google rankings based on the country the domain is registered in? e.g. does someone from UK find first the most relevant .co.uk pages and then the rest when searching in google?

Why are country code top-level domains more expensive than usual .net or .com ones? In specific .pr?
Q. .pr is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) of Puerto Rico. This domain is in around 1,000USD$ right now. Why is this ccTLD so expensive? Why are ccTLD more expensive than regular second level ones like .com or .net? Help, and thanks. PS. This is for college research.

A. The usual laws of supply and demand. PE stands for Public Relations, so people want to buy domains in that TLD for that association instead of its geographical relevance. High demand means a high price.

Acoount name for different domains (@yahoo.com.country)?
Q. Hello, I created an email-account for my dad, on a "localized" yahoo domain (@yahoo.com.mx). However when I configured Outlook, I mistakenly used @yahoo.com for his email. Since Yahoo! doesn't need the whole email to login, just the username, he could send tons of emails. However since it was setup as @yahoo.com, all replied mails are bounced back to their recipients, with a "554 delivery error: dd This user doesn't have a yahoo.com account" error. He emailed a lot of photos to his friends, but he doesn't want to "bother" all his contacts by sending the emails again, by "saturating" their emails with the photos again, or by being taken as demanding too much attention... I don't know what to do, I tried to create an @yahoo.com account… [cont.]

International Patent - I have a patent in one country, does that endanger a PCT application?
Q. The issue is that the patent has been published and so is in the public domain, in one country and so effectively the world. Does this therefore mean that it cannot be patented elsewhere in other countries, as the patent has been put into the public domain? Thanks for the answers so far. I still don't feel comfortable about the fact that a patent is in the public domain in country A when one applies in another country B. Effectively it is in the public domain in country B. The PCT process seems to take the effort out of simultaneous filing in multiple countries - which suggests that disclosure or filing sequentially too far apart in time is an issue. I could not wade through WIPO fully, but if anyone has exact knowledge of this issue that… [cont.]

A. As a general rule, a PCT application should be filed within one year of a first filing in a member country. If you have an issued patent already, it seems likely that it has been more than a year since you first filed. Consult a patent attorney. Here is a short paragraph about the PCT from: Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) A PCT patent application is a way to file a single application that retains for the applicant the right to file applications in all designated Contracting countries. There are currently over 117 PCT Contracting countries. A PCT application claims priority from an initial filing in one of the Contracting Countries usually the US for us and must be filed within 12 months of the filing date of the initial… [cont.]

SEO- Does a countries domain extension (i.e. .com.mx for mexico) rank higher in that country's search engines?
Q. I'm wondering if the domain extension in foreign countries ranks higher in that countries search engine query results. Thanks
Asked by The Ghost - Fri Aug 15 07:09:28 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. SEO rankings are not completely based on domain extensions and have to do with the actual rankings of the website. Unless... someone specifically goes to their specific country's google site and clicks on search (say google.ca "movies"), then the top ranking movies websites and top ranking canadian movies websites will compete with each other and listed in sequence. If it's a different language then yes there's definitely alot more chances for your website to show up, if they search under that language, then your website competes with local ones.

How to change Yahoo!country domain?
Q. I've accidentally changed my Yahoo! domain from Yahoo! Asia to Yahoo! Taiwan. But from Yahoo! Taiwan, I was unable to find the option for changing it back to Yahoo! Asia again. Please help.
Asked by AT - Wed Nov 12 06:25:03 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Taiwan is part of Asia and that is the reason why you have @yahoo.taiwan. there is no specific country domain as "Asia" only. you have to choose which country you are in, or if you are in the Philippines, even if you will click Yahoo!Asia, you will be prompted to choose Philippines instead. or China, Korea, Japan, Hongkong, Thailand, etc. etc. etc. and that is the so-called "country domain" of yahoo.

A. you need to block the domain, such as @yahoo.com or @orange.fr or @wanadoo.nl unfortunately, you cannot block just the ".de" or ".fr" part the good news is, most of the legitimate sites only have a few major isps in each country. most of my garbage male uses yahoo or msn or some little made up name with an @garbage.com address, so that can only be blocked by reporting it as spam on yahoo
