Thermal coupler changed, pilot now stays on but gas to heat won't stay lit.Kicks off after a minute?
Q. I have a weiland boiler. It needed a new thermal coupler. The thermal coupler now keeps the pilot lit. But now after the boiler lites to heat the house, it kicks off after a minute and even turning up the thermostat won't turn it back on even with the pilot lite staying lit.

A. You need to make sure there is a call for heat and that you are not loosing that call. Call for heat could be a room stat or tank stat and that the timer is in an on Period. The other thing could be a over heat problem. Ie if you call for heat but there is no route for the heated water to flow, Valve not open. The boiler will keep heating the same water thats in the boiler and trip you overheated sensor. The overheat sensor could alos be faulty of course.

Garage door opener transmitter led stays lit?
Q. I just moved into a new house that has a wayne dalton garage door opener. The remote for the opener does not work. The led on the remote stays lit. Could the batteries just be low?

A. Try changing batteries but there may be a short. Do you have anther transmitter to try? Can buy another transmitter at radio shack I think and have them set it to your frequency so it will work.

Does the Shamesh stays lit from the very first day of Hanukkah?
Q. Does that mean that you would never see a menorah with only ONE candle lit but you start with two and on, or do you blow out the shamesh once you lit the candle(s) for that night. Also do candles are lit at least half hour after night fall or half hour past midnight?
Asked by Tincan - Mon Dec 3 19:18:49 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. The Shamash lights the amount of candles that night, then gets put into its holder. It will be burnt down with the rest of the candles, it looks nice to have it burn down with the rest of them instead of blowing them out. They have to stay lit for at least a half hour, during the time that people are out driving or walking the street so you can see them. If they are lit at midnight, is it pointless because then no one will see them.

Old gas wall heater, pilot stays lit, main burner won't light.?
Q. The pilot light is lit and stays lit just fine. The thermostat seems to be working fine but the main burner never kicks on. Worked fine yesterday and the 30 years or so before that. Any help on fixing it rather than replacing things?

A. the above anwsers are completely wrong ... as stated in the original question the pilot is ON and lit just fine... Thermocouples are what maintain the inerworkings of the unit as a whole. Think of it as kind of like a sensor that tells the main gas valve that its ok to turn on the gas to heat the room the thermocouple tells the main gas valve to stay on even if the thermostat or internal relay of the main gas valve are failing wall heaters don't have fans in 99% of cases... to add a fan to a wall heater is a very unpopular upgrade. the first clue above is that its over 30 years old so there for it would not have a high heat limit switch which is true for popular brands like Cozy and Williams its most likely the thermostat... a… [cont.]

what can be the problem with a 1997 Saturn when check engine light stays lit?
Q. Had car tuned up--check engine light still lit --another light shaped like a wrench goes on and off just above check engine light--any suggestions how to get rid of them--
Asked by willtdn - Mon Jun 12 19:28:20 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You got to read the codes - this will tell you the problem. Could be lots of things. The code reader can reset the lights if it is a bogus code, or just a service reminder. If you go to one of the big auto parts store chains (advance or auto zone) they will have a code reader and get them codes for you free, and reset your light. Once the codes are deciphered, you will know what to fix. Cheers!

A. Please reinstall opreating system then only the virus will be get permanently deleted. U can reinstall it using a recovery CD if you have created earlier or else you can order it from the technical support of the BRAND of your computer. eg: if u have dell call the DELL'S technical support & order it via phone. Every brand has a toll free number. Recovery cd is nothing but the opreating system cd. It has opreating system on it. Virus can only be deleted by reinstalling opreating system. In very rare cases virus gets deleted by using an antivirus software.

Why doesn't my pilot light stays lit?
Q. My air handling unit in the attic has a gas coil with a burning pilot light to activate the furnace. Once I let go of the switch the pilot light goes out. Is there some safety switch or a malfunctioning pilot light unit that could be the problem?
Asked by redacatfish - Fri Nov 24 03:23:29 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. When you are holding down the button for the 20 to 30 seconds, you will notice the flame is burning this "rod" looking post which is attached to a small diameter copper tubing. This device is called the Thermocouple. This device is what keeps the pilot burning. If pilot will not stay lit, replace the thermocouple. In rare occasions, a draft from somewhere could be blowing out the flame. Other problems could be a plugged pilot orifice or the pilot flame needs adjusting. Both, i recommend having a technician to look at. Good Luck!

The dashboard of my van has symbols that stay lit while driving. How do I fix it?
Q. I own a 1996 Ford Windstar. On the dashboard, the brake, anti lock, door ajar, and check engine symbols stay lit when I'm driving. There's nothing wrong with any of these parts, so how do I correct the problem so the symbols stay unlit on the dashboard? Also, how do I replace lights on the dashboard ie I cannot read the speedometer.

A. My opinion - if it is a Ford Windstar is can be repaired only by purchase of a new vehicle, preferable not a Windstar. Take it to a dealer and see if they do not agree.

Q. It stays on from late spring, through mid fall, but as soon as it gets cold, it goes out constantly. On non windy days, and windy days. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem. It is a real pain in the butt!

A. You may be loosing some gas pressure in the winter due to the furnace coming on. If so, the pilot flame may need to be adjusted up a little higher so it fully engulfs the thermocouple even when the furnace is on. If that is not possible or does not help, you may need a new thermocouple. Bert

A. Its impossible to give you an exact answer as there are a few faults that would cause the pilot to go out.The thermocouple might have a dirty tip or be burnt out,the mag unit in the gas valve might be also on the road out,the pilot flame might be partially choked or the thermocouple could be linked to an over heat stat which would extinguish the flame if the main thermostat failed. Phone a Gas safe registered heating engineer.
