Where would I get a 100% free Top Level Domain?
Q. Where would I get a 100% free Top Level Domain? Where would I get one that's free, with no offers required, no surveys, forum posts, ads, no phone, no credit card etc. Thanks so much! Jack Smith

A. There is essentially no site out there that gives away free domain names to the general public, let alone one that fits your very picky requirements. There is a reason why you have to complete offers, fill out surveys, posts on forums, etc. to get a free domain. Domain registration requires a fee, so no company can just give away domain names to everyone without being in debt to the tune of possibly nearly a billion dollars, if not more. So they obviously have to get their money back somehow. Besides cost, there is a privacy and liability issue. See, with domain registration, you have to fill out your personal information. When I say personal information, I mean everything short of your social security number, Your email. Your phone… [cont.]

Top Level Domain for home server set up?
Q. I am configuring Windows Server 2003 R2 and would like to install DNS and AD. but before I start I need to know if I should use a .local or .com Top Level Domain (TLD) I know the differences of each and that a .com would require it registered on the web etc. I am simply looking for the pro's and con's to each set up, thanks

A. Keep it to a local dns server, your domain registrar will handle your external dns and the service comes free with the registration. Do NOT let it show dns to the internet. For successful dns you need multiple servers for redundancy in any case.

How can we purchase/register a top level domain name? Like .com, .net, .org and so on?
Q. How can we purchase/register a top level domain name? I mean we have .com .net .org and so on but is it possible for me to purchase my own domain? Like .ak(Alaska) for example. How much would this cost and what would be the requirements for this? Hope to receive a response from someone in the know. To the answers, I mean like my OWN domain. top level domain. If I purchase a "normal" domain name I'd register like thedomainilike.com or the domainilike.net But what I mean here is that I'd like to have my own .domainilike So people can purchase a domain name on my top level domain. A. The domain names extensions are not given out for commercial use, but each country has been given its own name and some are willing to sell them. However, if the extension you're looking for doesn't belong to some small country, you're out of luck. Sorry.

Q. .tr is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Turkey. It is administered by Middle East Technical University Computer Center. .nc.tr is used as a second-level domain for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, as it has no country code assigned. The same as the one seen below

A. No. The top level domain name is always the last one BEFORE the "/". Anything after the "/" has nothng to do with internet addressing - only internal processing at the website. The top level domain in your example is "ORG".

A. Yes, you can register one as an individual. The basic rules of a TLD can be found at or at any registrar's Web site. UPDATE: It's easiest to buy a domain if you have a credit card. You can buy one with a check if it's a .com, .net, etc. type domain and you use godaddy.com. There's really nothing to it. You just search for the domain you want; once you find one you like, you go ahead, provide your contact information and pay. For .com, .net, .org and most other TLDs, just go to and follow the instructions there. If you want a specific domain in another TLD, such as a country's TLD (.jp, etc.), you'll need to use that country's domain registrars. Google "{Country name} domain registrar", where {Country name} is the name of the… [cont.]

Qs usuaily reduce the value, but I think the three that start with Q are probably the most valuable on the list but probably sell for less than $20.

A. Particularly, never mention Wikipedia (or any other encyclopedia) as your source, because that is *sure* to get ensure a lower score. If possible, try to see that your sources are .edu / .gov sites. (I don't know which topic you're writing the paper on - the availability of data online, and what kind of websites they are in - would depend from topic-to-topic.)
