Wireless network refers to any type of computer network that is wireless, and is commonly associated with a telecommunications network whose interconnections between nodes is implemented without the use of wires. Wireless telecommunications networks are generally implemented with some type of remote information transmission system that uses electromagnetic waves, such as radio waves, for the carrier and this implementation usually takes place at the physical level or "layer" of the network.

How can I establish my wireless network on a second computer at home?
Q. I have a new computer (Vista) set up on a wireless network (Netgear router) and it is working perfectly. Am trying to set up my second computer (XP and a wireless adapter) but it isn't recognizing any available wireless network. Should I contact my ISP or is there an understandable sequence of steps I should take to establish my wireless network on the second computer?

A. Use the XP network wizard. The two computers must belong to the same workgroup, so you need to set up the second computer with the same workgroup name. Then turn your attention to the wireless connection for which you need to know the name of the network and the password (these are not the same as the router user name and password unless you set them to be the same). Email me if you are still stuck.

How to set up a wireless network using a router?
Q. How to set up one of my wireless laptop to my wireless network, so that I can use the laptop without plugging the cord directly to the router? Could someone help me please. Thanks.

A. Every wireless router is slightly different, so I do recommend reading the manual or start-up guide that came with the router. If you don't have that a phone call to the manufacturer of your router will get you someone who can walk you through the entire process, but I'll try to offer some tips. Your basic setup will look like this: Your internet is provided to you by your ISP via a Cablemodem, DSL modem or other interface with an Ethernet (RJ45) connection. I'll call that device the modem. You will want to connect the "Uplink" port of your router to this connection on the modem. Most routers have both Ethernet and Wireless capabilities. Some routers have default settings where all you need to do is enable the wireless on your computer… [cont.]

How to determine wireless network security key?
Q. I'm trying to set up a wireless network connection for my new computer, which has Windows 7 installed. It recognizes the network, but I don't know the security key (passphrase.) I know it's usually the number under the serial number on the router itself, but I've tried entering this number and I'm still not able to connect to the network. What do I need to do? Thanks!
